Walking the Time Gathering in Maní, Yucatán

The agroecology school U Yits Ka’an welcomed the Casa Gallina team and various community agents and organizations to reflect on Xook K’iin, a Mayan concept used to name the knowledge related to weather prediction, the relationship between humans and their environment, and climatological interpretation through the signals that nature provides us.

On behalf of Casa Gallina, the mediators, Rafael Rentería and José Guerrero, conducted a 3-day workshop to apply the collective mapping methodology through didactic exercises such as: the creation of an N-narrative and the development of map-story prototypes, encouraging reflection and collaboration among participants.

To conclude the gathering, a plenary session was held where participants shared what they could offer, their needs and desires for the future, thinking about shared paths to develop collaborations and projects focused on generating tools that allow consolidating learning around the practices of reading and walking time.

Notes for a body-territory mapping: U’yool’ché

U'yool'ché A.C., a partner organization, decided to mobilize for the creation of a new narrative about Mayan women from various communities in Quintana Roo. Having shared their work plan with Casa Gallina, a brief program was created that helped provide certain foundations for the articulation of participatory mapping tools that would be useful to them when developing their work in the territory. These dynamics are part of a constant effort to exchange strategies with partner organizations in a logic of mutual support and mutual learning.
